Which Cap Suits Your Face Shape

Two people can buy the same cap and it will look right on one and wrong on the other. It is usually not the colour. It is the crown height and how much the brim curves.

Round face

A taller crown adds height and balances width. Keep the brim fairly flat and wear the cap a little further back so it does not cut across your forehead.

Long or oval face

The opposite. A lower crown and a curved brim worn closer to the eyebrows shortens the face. A tall crown on a long face makes it longer.

Square face

A curved brim softens a strong jaw. Structured corduroy caps work well here because the fabric has some give and the shape settles rather than sitting rigid.

Heart-shaped face

A medium crown with a curved brim. Avoid wearing it too far back — it widens the forehead, which is already the widest part.

Things that matter more than face shape

• The fit. A cap should sit without pressure and without sliding. Ours are adjustable at the back, so one size does genuinely fit.
• Where the brim ends. Roughly in line with the end of your nose is a safe rule.
• The fabric. Corduroy holds a shape and reads as a bit more considered. Plain cotton twill is easier and goes with more.

A word on hair

If you wear your hair up, try the cap with your hair the way you actually wear it. A cap that fits with your hair down can sit completely differently over a bun.
